A few weeks back I finally got a chance to step foot inside an Airstream, something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. Of all the RVs hubby and I have looked at - and we’ve definitely looked at A LOT of them - for some reason we’d never come across one of the Silver Bullets.
So when a press release crossed my desk at work about a new Airstream dealership opening up in town, I jumped at the chance to cover the story, being the geeky RV nut that I am. And with the opportunity to meet the CEO of the company for a one-on-one interview, well let’s just say I was SUPER excited.
And I wasn’t disappointed - Bob Wheeler (the CEO) was the coolest, most down-to-earth guy in the world, all the new Airstreams on the lot were shiny as could be, I got to tour all of the models and even got a closeup look at the rare Basecamp.
But I have to say, after seeing the iconic trailers in person, I don’t think I would ever want one. Oh sure, they’re cool and shiny and all - and they have nice interiors - but I’m a tip-out girl. I can’t help it… when you’re sharing RV space with a husband and two dogs, it tends to get crowded. I need that extra room because there’s only so much I can take of tripping over dogs and trying to squeeze by the hubby to go to the bathroom before I start to get cranky. And then there’s the price, of course. The Airstreams start at $35,000 and go all the way up to $110,000. Aye carumba!
So the Cheesmans will be sticking with their 26-foot Terry travel trailer with the tip-out and the cheap payment. It’s not trendy, shiny or attention-grabbing but it suits us just fine.
