It’s hard to believe it’s already the holiday season… but then again it tends to sneak up on me fast every year.
Last year, Scott and I spent Thanksgiving camping with my family at Waterloo Park, located outside of Lebanon, Oregon along the South Santiam River. Although we had a great time with our non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner, freezing temperatures overnight (which led to some frozen lines) were a sign that perhaps we had pushed the late-season camping thing a little too far.
So this year we’re having the traditional turkey dinner inside a warm and toasty home. And it’s our turn to host the affair so that warm and toasty home will be ours.
The turkey is in the fridge (I got a steal of a deal and only paid five and half bucks for a 22-pounder), we’ve got the trimmings to go along with it and I’ve got some cute Turkey Day tablecloths that I snagged from the dollar store.
The only thing that’s missing is the big bag of potatoes I bought at the store that somehow never made it home (I know I paid for them, but I must have left them behind because they are nowhere to be found). Sigh…
Potato problem aside, I want to take a moment to share all the things I am thankful for:
- Another year with my husband (our 16th). He’s a good man and I can’t imagine life without him.
- A family who loves and understands me unconditionally (I know it can’t be easy).
- Two close family members, who suffered serious health setbacks this year, are still with us and are moving along well in their recovery.
- Another year with my old Chihuahua, Mitsy (who we feared was going to kick the bucket a few weeks back, but is now back to her old self again). And of course, another year with my two other dogs - Chester and Susie.
- The fact that despite the nation’s worsening economy I still have my job… and I still get to do what I love (writing).
- The many weekends Scott and I spent traveling in our trailer this past year. Very good times.
- Two vehicles that haven’t given us a lick of trouble (knock on wood).
- And last, but not least, our kitchen remodel is FINALLY done (aside from a few minor tweaks).
