Diesel or gas? Used or new?

Author: Shannon  //  Category: RV Shopping

Oh my gosh, there are so many things to consider.  I mean, we are going to be living in whatever we buy and we don’t want to make the wrong decision.

The prices of used motorhomes are really good, but I’m wondering if we should fork out the extra dough for a brand new one so we don’t run into any unforeseen problems.  We are, after all, newbies at all of this.

We still can’t figure out which is better - diesel or gas.  Scott’s leaning toward a diesel pusher but I’m thinking a gas motorhome would be more affordable.

Then there is the price of gas.  With it so high at the pump, will we really be able to afford to fill the tank?  How much does it cost to fill one of those things anyway?

Ok… I need to relax… I’m really stressing myself out.

By the way, Scott keeps teasing me that he’s going to put me in something like this (that is so not funny).

  1. Sean Says:

Shannon, although diesel is a little more expensive than gas, you get more mileage. Possibly upwards of 50 miles per gallon. So, you would actually be saving money on fuel in the long run.

50 miles per gallon? Where do we buy that motorhome?
We average about 7.5 mpg in our diesel pusher, and it takes some care in how you drive to get that.

Any way you slice it, the price of fuel is a drag. Look at other factors as you make your buying decisions. It is a great life - take your time to think things out and plan.

    Enjoy.
