Missing my little northern California lake

Ok, Scott doesn’t know this yet (although he will when he reads this) but I really want to go to Gumboot Lake this summer.  LIKE REALLY BAD.

Why?

Nostalgia, plain and simple.  You see, I grew up camping and fishing at that little mountain lake in northern California and it brings back wonderful memories - my dad with his stringers full of trout, my brother and I sitting on the tiny concrete dam with our feet in the water, my mom filling jugs with ice cold water from the mountain spring and me hiking around the lake.

Several years ago, my family went on a little exodus to Gumboot Lake and I got to take Scott along.  I don’t think it held the same magic for him, but then again he didn’t arrive at camp with a bunch of childhood memories like I did.  But we had a lot of fun - fishing, hiking and camping out with my folks and my brother and his family.

And now I’d like to go again this summer.  As much as I enjoy camping in Oregon, my roots are in northern California (where I was raised) and sometimes I sorely miss that state.  I miss hopping in my dad’s boat and staying out on Shasta Lake all weekend, catching trout off the bridge at Sims Flat on the Sacramento River, spending a sizzling hot summer day in the crystal clear water at Whiskeytown Lake… and on and on.

So I am going to try to convince Scott to take me back to California this summer and Gumboot Lake is going to be the destination.  Oh, he’ll probably roll his eyes and wonder why I got this hair up my butt all of a sudden.  But I can be pretty persuasive and Scott, being the awesome loving husband that he is, has certainly been known to give in to me in the past.  So my chances are quite good.

its really amazing to go back to place from where u originally belong.and everyone should do this too, to let their children know their past and how they were in their past and how they enjoy with their family. as this will create a good impact at children’s mind.
