I’ve seen this rumor here and there on the Internet since I started searching for RV-related sites and was wondering if it was actually true.
Scott and I have already discussed the idea that we may end up staying in a few Wal-Mart parking lots when we start full-timing. Some might think it would be embarrassing, but we don’t care. We figure free will be a very good price when we hit the road and have to really watch our travel budget.
According to a Boondocking blog I found, they checked out the rumor. They actually made a call to the corporate office and got the skinny on the deal… that Wal-Mart is not planning on changing its policy on letting RVers camp in their lots, although it is up to the store manager’s discretion and certain ordinances may prohibit it in certain towns. I actually found a site that lists the Wal-Marts that prohibit camping. There are 4 in Oregon - Bend, Coos Bay, Eugene-Springfield and Newport.
So there you have it… the rumor appears to be squashed and Scott and I can rest assured that we’ll be able to park in the back 40 of most any Wal-Mart and become those people. Cool.
