Good times on the Toutle River…

Rarely do Scott and I venture to the Washington side of the Columbia River for a camping trip but when you get invited to park your RV for free on someone’s property and spend the weekend in the outdoors with people you love to hang out with, well…

So Labor Day weekend we headed up north to the Toutle River (up by Mount St. Helens) for an RV getaway with Scott’s cousins, his aunt and uncle and several friends of the family.  It was perfect - no annoying holiday crowds to piss us off, no overnight camping fees to pay and beautiful scenery that you just can’t get in a campground.  We were on 10 acres of land that sits right on the river… and with folks we enjoy spending time with.

Now compared to many of our other trips, this one was decidedly low key.  We stayed in camp and visited with everyone, Scott played horseshoes and we listened to the rain while eating breakfast in the trailer.   And we spent an afternoon helping his cousin clear brush from her new property on Silver Lake, just a few miles down the road.

It turned out to be one of the best camping trips we’ve had this year (aside from the 9 days we spent at Lake Billy Chinook a few weeks back to celebrate our 17th anniversary). Good times… good company… and not even the rain could dampen our spirits.
