Some folks thought we were a little crazy for going on a week-long camping trip in the middle of March, but we don’t listen to the naysayers. Heck, we once camped at the end of November during Thanksgiving weekend in freezing temperatures. That’s just how we roll.
This time around we enjoyed some pretty decent weather. Sure, the first couple of days were cold and cloudy, but we were fortunate to be able to enjoy some nice, warm sunshine for the rest of the trip. It was amazing and we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was in the middle of March.
Our destination was the Toutle River, about 40 miles from Mount St. Helens. We stayed on some private land that we had permission to camp on, which meant we used the generator quite a bit and a fair amount of propane. Hubby kept teasing that we were “off the grid,” like we were living life on the edge. Yeah, that’s us… two wild and crazy folks in our Terry trailer just a few miles from civilization. I just had to laugh.
The best part was that hardly anyone was up there - no summer crowds, no kids on Spring Break… pretty much nobody but us. Camping in the off-season definitely has its perks.
